The 2009 is the seventh Petite Sirah offering from Jodar. It is a limited bottling of what we refer to as a “wow!” wine. The color is classic for the varietal—dark purple with tinges of blue. An amazing bouquet is nestled in a cloak of cocoa and highlighted by dark stone fruit and an array of spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper—with cedar notes. Remarkably smooth on the palate, the dark plum flavor continues along with the spices and a return of cedar and black pepper. An elegant body is supported by well balanced tannins, and the long, smooth finish haunts the senses.
The 2012 growing season was one of the most remarkable for it's large crop and deep flavors. We were able to pick more fruit this year than ever before!
Petite Sirah is a favorite for grilled/smoked meats, as it stands up to “big” flavors, but it also pairs well with rich red meats that have never seen the grill. Try it with uncomplicated cheeses from provolone to cheddar. (Many say the bigger the cheese the better the match.)
